Michael Jackson, Farrah, Ed McMahon, Billy Mays...their deaths were splashed across the media. My Dad's wasn't. On June 22, at 4:50 pm, the finest man I have ever known quietly passed away. The man I admired and respected the most, whose opinion meant every thing to me was gone. There was no news media present, just my sister and I. There were no late breaking announcements on CNN, just tearful phone calls as I contacted the rest of the family.
I guess I sound jealous or spiteful, but the world lost a wonderful man without knowing it. A man who worked hard, paid his bills on time, had a loving wife, three kids, and eight grand children. If more of the world followed his example, this would be a much better place to live.
Good-by Dad. I hope I made the right decisions. I miss you.

I'm so sorry to read of your loss.
I thought of all those that were crossing over - without the glare from the lights of the world upon them; but don't be too sure that the ripples of those, like your dad, leaving from this side of the veil, were not felt.

I am sorry for your loss. I am sure your father knew he was loved and respected for the man he was.
It was great men such as your Dad, that made us what we are today. Great men that went about their lives, worked two jobs and were bone tired at the end of every day.. yet found time to assemble and fly kites, fix ailing cars, repair leaking faucets, give hugs, bandage scraped knees, and keep vigil over an ill child. Just "average" guys who were more than average. Just average guys who were true heros in the eyes of their children. My Dad was also such a man.... fifteen years since his passing and I miss him every day. My Dad who raised and educated five caring, productive children. My Dad who had the patience of Jobe.
I feel your pain and I mourn your loss. Find solace in the fact that your wonderful father has earned a special place in heaven. He will live on forever, here on earth, through the values he taught and the respect and love he instilled in his children. These are the things that make the world far richer than money or fame.
My heart goes out to you. Please accept my condolences. May your precious father rest in peace.
